Resolved [RESOLVED] Do I have all that is required?

I am on an always-on broadband internet connection.I use Firefox and my OS is XP SP2.

I use the following security software:
    Antivir Personal Free - realtime
    Dr. Web - on demand
    MBAM - on demand
    SAS - on demand

Which other antimalware may I need?

Do I also need a firewall; if so which?

    Thanks in advance.

To begin with I'll recommend updating XP to SP3. As far as malware protection I'll recommend Malwarebytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org/ it has a free version and a paid version that offers realtime protection. The choice is yours on which one is right for you.

Firewall: There are several free ones that are good; ZoneAlarm, Comodo and Outpost are all free and highly rated.

If you are using a router that provides network address translation (NAT) as part of your connection setup, then the basic Windows Firewall that's part of XP is ok. If you have no router, then you need a better firewall than XP's.

But I agree with jmtjet that if you are stopped at Service Pack 2, I'm concerned that you aren't doing your Windows patches. If you aren't doing ALL of them, then your other efforts may be for naught. Most of Windows patches are security oriented...

April is the last month, when updates for Windows XP SP2 will be issued, so it's time to apply SP3.

tmtjet, I just checked; my XP is SP3. I have once used Comodo but recent reviews have moved me away. I have just installed Privatefirewall 7.0 and Spywareblaster.
    Is my set-up complete?

Looks like you've got just about everything covered. I'm unfamiliar with PrivateFirewall 7.0, having never used it. But after checking out the reviews it sounds like an excellent choice. Keeping everything updated is also important. Happy surfing.
