[RESOLVED] SSD formatting
Hi there,
A friend has loaned me a 30gb SSD adn told me to play with it. Format, install my XP os and see how it is better than my existing hd.
I used Partition Magic to delete the partitions and now have one 30gb partition. But I am unable to format it. Whether using Partition Magic or from within Disk Management, the process counts down to 100% and then tells me that the Operation could not be Completed (Disk Management) or in the case of PM, of the three graphs, the two Formatting graphs show 100% but the Entire Process graph freezes at 94%.
Then I have to Cnt/Alt/Del to end PM. Clicking cancel or X freezes the computer. I have noticed that Task Manager show the PM, while in formatting mode, shows CPU activity, but after ten minutes, Entire Process graph still show 94%.
Any suggestions as to what I should do?
Many thanks,
Rex

Once you have got WinXP installed, make sure that the defragmenter is disabled, and do not install a 3rd party defragger. SSDs do not need to be defragged, and doing so will seriously shorten it's life
