On board sound driver messed up

I was trying to install drivers for my onboard nic and somehow my sound card drivers got messed up and now my sound is all distorted. Any help?

My motherboard is a Intel D915GRO AA89748-202. It is installed in a Sony VGC-RB40 computer. TIA

1. uninstall the present drivers.

2. If you used downloaded drivers, they maybe corrupted, so download them again and reinstall.

if you used a cd, clean the cd and the lazer. The \n try again.

Thanks for the responce. I don't know what file the drivers are in or what the name of the driver is so I don't know how to delete them.

BTW the on board sound is a Real Tek HD Audio V5005804/V6015804

Go to Device Manager, find the Realtek Audio device in there, then right-click and choose "Uninstall". You can get the replacement drivers from the motherboard maker's website.

The sound device is listed twice in device manager. I uninstalled both of them and went to Sony's site and downloaded the drivers. When I went to install them it said it could not find the .inf file and that the install failed. Then it told me to reboot and when I did Windows 7 installed the drivers again and the sound is still distorted.

I suspect it my not be the drivers here. Have you tried plugging a a pair of headphones in, to see if the distortion is still there with those?

I have XP on one hard drive and Windows 7 on another hard drive. I did have them set up as dual boot but somehow that got messed up too. So now I just plug in which one I want to boot up. When I boot up XP the sound is normal but when I boot up Windows 7 it is distorted.

What would you think would be causing this?

I have done all that, as far as changing drivers, updating drivers, etc.

What I need to do is some how copy the drivers I have in XP to Windows 7.

If you could tell me how to do that I would appreciate it.

You cannot just copy XP drivers over and expect them to work. Drivers have to be written specifically for the OS. Vista drivers will often work in Win 7, as they are largely the same underneath, but you've got no chance with XP drivers.

I went to the Real Tek site and burned a copy of the drivers for Windows 7 and then tried to install them using the device manager. The device manager would not let me install the drivers. It said I already had the correct drivers. They may the correct drivers but they don't work.

I hate Windows 7 and my advice for anyone who has XP is don't buy Vista or Windows 7.
