    Unknown Device Identifier 7.00

    Freeware
Unknown Device Identifier enables you to identify the yellow question mark labeled Unknown Devices in Device Manager. And reports you a detailed summary for the manufacturer name, OEM name, device type, device model and even the exact name of the unknown devices. With the collected information, you might contact your hardware manufacturer for support or search the Internet for the corresponding driver with a simple click. With this utility, you might immediately convert your unidentified unknown devices into identified known devices and find proper driver on the Internet and contact the hardware device manufacturer or vender. Known devices recognized by Microsoft Windows will also be analyzed independent of the operating system.

Catalyst 9.12 HDMI-audio driver (32-bit) for Windows XP 32-bit Edition
The stock ATI Catalyst drivers probably doesn't have the Sapphire HDMI driver. Download it off the Sapphire site.

You installed both the ATI Catalyst drivers AND the Sapphire HDMI drivers? They are two separate installs.

when I did the installation, I did a complete installation .. I sat and watched what was being installed and I did see the HDMI installation .... would it possibly be a good idea to install the HDMI drivers that are posted on the Sapphire site, even though I did use the Sapphire installation cd to install everything ...

You might as well try at this point. The Sapphire site lists the ATI catalyst separate from the HDMI driver, so you would need to install both.
