Resolved [RESOLVED] Getting error while booting (Again)

    Hello,

    I'm getting this error Again.
    Error,
?q program not found - skipping autocheck

It's popping up after the MS logo screen.

I Fixed it last time by doing a format in reinstall.
But, then I was just 2 day past the last reinstall so did it again.
Do not want to have to do it again.

I have also done a web search for this error and it seems I'm the only one..

    Any ideas?

Windows Start button->Run and type: msconfig

Look in the startup tab for weird things...like the ?q entry.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

No ?q in the startup tab, I did have a Blank one, it's been disabled.

I will reboot and post back!

    Thanks

Rebooted and the blank one is not just disabled but gone.
And I still getting the error.

In the start up tab is,
    rundll32
    APVXDWIN
    Inicio
    Reader_sl
    AdobeARM
    nwiz
    Flashget
    E_S93
    ClockTraySkins
    ctfmon

Uncheck following items and see if the problem is still there.

    rundll32 - just rundll32?, if so - Uncheck
APVXDWIN - leave this - it's Panda antivirus
Inicio - leave this - it's Panda antivirus
    Reader_sl - not neccesary - Uncheck
AdobeARM - Adobe updater - not neccesary
    nwiz - leave this - it's nvidia
Flashget - not neccesary - uncheck
E_S93 - uncheck this - not sure what it is (does it start from a temp folder?)
ClockTraySkins - Uncheck this for now
ctfmon - uncheck this - not neccesary

?q program not found - skipping autocheck

It's popping up after the MS logo screen.
Do you mean it's in a DOS prompt after the Windows splash screen shows? or do you mean the error is a popup after Windows has started?

No it's not a DOS prompt! It's a blue screen (Not the BSOD type)

    Disabled
    rundll32
    Reader_sl
    AdobeARM
    Flashget
    E_S93
    ctfmon
    ClockTraySkins

Added back at boot: ctfmon and ClockTraySkins

And I'm still getting the error..

If the message is appearing in a blue window, not a full screen with blue background, then it likely is a DOS / Command Prompt window. The fact that it may pop up and then disappear does not change that. These can be caused by a start up batch file or program.

The screen is appearing before Windows starts, so a screen shot is probably not an option without a digital camera. However, searching the Registry for autocheck entries might reveal more information. DO NOT delete any registry entries without checking on what to delete first. Post a screen shot of any entries found in the registry.

The entry would be in this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager
The value BootExecute should read: autocheck autochk *
    Type is REG_MULTI_SZ

As an alternative you can download and run Autoruns
On the tab Boot Execute you can disable any other program booting at start up.

Ahhhh, the penny has dropped! Thanks Doc

Rodney, get your WinXP CD handy, then go to Start>Run and type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes (you don't get any report from the System File Checker, it just silently replaces and corrupt or missing system files that it finds).
