How to recover OE mail from Vista
Hi, I am thinking about upgrade to Vista but am not sure if I can recover my wife's Outlook Express mail to something else if there is something else. I have TBird and am not worried about it much but OE is a different story for me. I have setup Vista on another pc with the scenerio ready to work on. I have tried already but am not sure of the proceedure. Thanks in advance!

popman--I confuse easily. What version of Windows is your wife now using? I understand she is using Outlook Express as the email program. And you now want to install Vista on her PC and transfer the OE messages. Is that all correct?
Is this an internal transfer on her PC or do you want to transfer her OE messages to your Vista PC?
Since Win7 is now available, installing Vista seems a little outdated, but....
Since you have already backed up the OE message and address book files, that is part of the battle. Now "all" you have to do is transfer.

However, Vista comes with either Windows Mail or Windows Live Mail--depending when you got Vista. The latter replaces both OE and Windows Mail. (You can download/install Windows Live Mail if you do not have it already. )
Here is how you transfer OE messages to the mail program on Vista

If things get fouled up, you still have the backups from the PC, so do not lose them.

Thanks Welshjim for your response, sorry I left out info! We are running XP and I have had Vista Ultimate for about a year and have been reluctant about installing it for the reason that I don't like to rush into new OS versions incase there are problems. XP has been a pretty decent OS for me and I will probably go with Ver. 7 after I know it is stable enough. Besides I already paid for Vista so I will try it out for a while.
I will give the links you gave me a try and post back later on my results. THANKS!

Vista comes with Windows Mail and yes you can upgrade OE to it...
Win 7 does not come with an email client...
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.
