    Need help getting web-server online

I'm using one of my computer as a webserver using XAMPP. I'm going to start learning PHP/MySQL, so I want to run this server on the web so I can work on my programming and show off demo and so on. Only problem is that I can seem to get my site to display on the web. I am hooked in through TimeWarner cable router. I'm hooked up hard wire to the router. The router is a Ambit U10C022.01 ... I have already develope my index.html file and it's in the right location but when I punch in my IP address it just takes me to my RoadRunner search engine power by yahoo.

Do you have a registered domain and or a STATIC IP?

You will need to check with your Internet Service Provider to see if you already have or can get a static IP address. Also, are you using a router? If so, you will have to set that up to allow traffic on port 80.

Would you mind given me personal walk-through via telephone if I PM you with the number? So that I can make sure that I have all my t's cross and i's dotted. Thanks

I prefer to keep assistance info on this site, so that others might be helped as well.

It looks like Time Warner cable does not offer static IP addresses using their residential service. You may have to upgrade to business class service to get one. What that would cost in your area, I don't know - you would have to check.

As long as you are only accessing the site using the IP address, you can still set up the port forwarding needed, you just need to remember that when your IP address changes you will have to adjust the port forwarding.

Below are some links that might help with your router:
