Resolved [RESOLVED] Had to abandon OE for W-Live Mail, now B/U?

    Greetings all:

Had to abandon OE for W-Live Mail. Not a bad alternative for free. All is working well. Almost. When I searched for the correct B/U folders for my Second Copy to B/U I can not find. Googled it and learned that messages can be copied and pasted, but I was unable to locate folders to B/U. Are they there? I found where the folders reside, but I haven't a clue which to B/U that are restartable if need be. Help please. Thanks.

Which email are you looking for? OE's or Windows Live Mail?

    OE's extension is .dbx

mackrich--Once you find the OE .dbx files, see apin21's response here

Unless you uninstalled OE, I suspect the old .dbx files are still in the old OE Store Folder.
The default location for it is usually C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{A350791E-A03B-40AE-8844-1F7A8B818CC0}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Does B/U stand for Back Up by any chance?

    Widows Live Mail

    Sorry for confusion...

I want to find Windows Live Mail Back-Up folders that are like the .dbx folders in OE. I am now using Live Mail which transferred Email files/folders from OE. I need to re-set my Second Copy to auto copy.

    Thanks!

mackrich--There are no "Windows Live Mail Back-Up folders " created by default. (Same for OE.)
If you created them, then they would be where you put them.
It sounds like you are referring to the Store Folders which in each email system contains the actual email messages (though encoded so you cannot read directly) and from which you are viewing the messages when you open the folders in the Folder List, such as Inbox, Sent Items, etc.

    Jim,

Windows Live Mail did transfer ALL "store folders" from OE. I forget about the matenance button. It did give me the path to where the Live Mail "store folders" are kept. THANKS!!!! All set up for back-up.

    Case closed.

    One last comment

I did discover when upgrading from Office 2000 to 2007 that there can be a conflict with the spell check in OE6. It's stuck in French. There are some fixes around (none of which worked for me) so, if someone wonders why their OE isn't working right it it could be because of known conflicts with Office 2007. And, MS doesn't support OE any longer. Just an FYI.
