Accessing a CD drive on a W98SE pc
This laptop has a cd drive and when I insert a commercial audio disk into it I can play and hear it (using CD Player)..
But when I insert a CD-R disk (one that works fine on my W98 desktop pc) I can’t access it. Using WORD for example I do not see the CD drive listed in the Save As dropdown list.
I have tried to find it via DOS but doing a cd/ to D;, E:, F:, G:, or H: does not find it.
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks.

older drives can have a hard time reading burned CDs. Not much you can do about it.

Put a new burner in there. What I did and it worked just fine.
Some examples of IDE burners.

Since it's a laptop you'll need a slim drive. Below in the link is one.
