Will Win98 Install mess my partition table?

I currently have my drive partitioned
C(Win95),D(programs,E(downloads),f(scratch/swap) I also have partitions for Linux .I'm going to use this HD in a new comp I'm building and since the Win95 came with my HP I need to Install a new OS(win98). When installing Win98 ,I know it rewrites the MBR ,but does this mean the partition table as well?If it does is there a way to prevent it?When I installed win95 it was from the HP restore Disk and therefore it didn't go through setup .I want to format the 95 partiton and install98 while leaving my other partitions untouched.I know I'll need to reinstall the Programs, but want the data/preferences contained in each to still be there.

As long as you're installing on what is really C: (what fdisk would report as the primary and active partition) then I think you should be ok (assuming enuff space etc.). You can overinstall on the 95 (usu. a mess) or if you've got what you need for drivers then format C: first.
