    Recommendation for Blu-Ray Movie Software

I am still trying to build a HTPC (see my post in the Frankenstein Section) that will not only record television and movie presentations from my cable provider (for time-shifting), but also play Blu-Ray DVD's. In reading the various user reviews for Blu-Ray DVD drives, I realize that just having the drive is not enough to play the movies. The drive reviewers discuss various software packages, but I wanted this august group's opinion on what is the best software package for playing blu-ray movies. I do not need to burn any blu-ray discs, just play the movie on my HD TV.

Are my questions too hard or did I not take a bath and the smell prevents anyone from replying? This thread and my thread on buidling a PC DVR both got lots of views but no answers. You guys are going to give me a complex.

I would think any BD ready software would work pretty well. In these kinds of things, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you are happy, then I would stop there.

Beyond that, you don't mention your OS. I assume it's Vista. The WMP bundled with Vista cannot natively play BD discs. (Of course, XP never did as it's old.) You may be able to if you use WMP 11 with the proper codecs (like http://shark007.net/vistacodecpackage.html But I have never tested this!)

I am pretty certain VLC will play BD discs but am not sure of the quality. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Of course, commercial programs like new versions of Cyberlink's PowerDVD will work but they cost...

I don't have a BD drive, but you also try Media Player Classic HC.

Thanks guys for the replies. I figured pretty much most of the BD software would play the movies, but as we all know some software is better than others.
