Reputation of IP Address being damaged

I wanted to register at a website. I was refused registration with this message:

"Sorry, but your IP Address has been listed as a known spammer. You will not be allowed to register".

I am surprised at this disclosure because I use the Net for information and my education particularly for the graduate program in Organization Development I am engaged in. I am an average computer user and I do not have the skills ( I am a Virtual Med Student on VirtualDr) to spam anybody and that is even something that I will never do.
God forbid! What for? I am 56 years old; an Accountant working with a Christian denomination as well as a respected Church leader.

I think someone is using my IP Address to engage in this detestable activity. I am enraged but I need help to stop this before my IP address is banned entirely. I cannot do without the Internet.

    Please help!!!!!!!

So site filter "too much" when banning spammers by banning a range of IP's...

214.156.xxx.xxx -> so any address that starts with those numbers would be banned. Use te sites Contact Us link and plead your case.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

    Thanks, Steve.

Used the contact us link and the response was that I should send my IP Address so that they will inform the creator of the list to have me unlisted. Is it safe?

Yes,it's safe... that's the only way you'll be able to join the site. They can't do anything bad with your IP anyway especially since their automatically going to have it anyway as soon as you log in. That's how all sites work... they need to see/know your IP address in order to connect to your computer.

One thing, though, is that if you have a dynamic, that is changing, IP address with a dialup or a DSL hispeed connection your IP will change every time you dial in and it will change periodically with DSL as well unless you've specifically signed up for a static, permanent IP address.

Cable hispeed changes too but less often. DSL can change as often as every few days but usually a few weeks or so. In which case you'll eventually find yourself locked out if you ever log out of the site and try to get back in.
