    Installing a new dvd-rw drive

i have a dell optiplex gx260 and a friend gave me an lg gsa-4163b dvd-rw burner for it (with no software)). of course, being the jackass that i am, assumed that you just open the case, replace the existing drive with the new one, and presto. but jee-whiz was i wrong. the computer doesnt even detect the drive. what steps should i take? do i need drivers? i read something about a jumper set-up, do i need to do that too? somebody, for the love of god, help me!!

    Welcome to Virtual Dr.
Yes, you need to check the jumper. If you installed it on the same cable as the previous one, then you need to set jumper to Master position.

And double check that the cables are firmly plugged in (at the motherboard end as well for the data cable) - it is very easy to insert them so that they don't make good contact.
