    Driver Issues XP Home

Hi Folks, long time no see!

I'm having some problems with me old PC.

Basically, any new piece of hardware I install throws up "Cannot Install... ... due to the wizard not finding the necessary software" message.

It's been like this for well over 18 months, but it's not bothered me since the hardware I've wanted to use has been run fine on my 2nd machine (older and slower).

I won't bore you with the details of why I need to use these hardwares on the machine with problems, but I do need to get it sorted!

Anyway, whichever device I've tried to install (internal or external) or update Onboard devices, and, whether using manufacturers drivers or letting XP find it's own drivers I get the "Cannot Install" message.

I don't really want to have to do a fresh install of XP as it will take me ages to re-install all my coveted software!

The specs of my machine are:
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition SP3
    Motherboard:
    CPU Type: Intel Pentium 4, 3000 MHz (15 x 200)
Motherboard Name: Asus P4S800D (5 PCI, 1 AGP, 1 WiFi, 4 DDR DIMM, LAN)
    Motherboard Chipset: SiS 655FX
System Memory: 2048 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)
    BIOS Type: AMI (08/22/05)
    Display:
Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 6200 (256 MB)
    Storage:
SCSI/RAID Controller: SiS 180 RAID Controller
Disk Drive: WDC WD36 0GD-00FLC0 SCSI Disk Device (36 GB, 10000 RPM, SATA)
Disk Drive: WDC WD25 00KS-00MJB0 SCSI Disk Device (232 GB)
Disk Drive: Seagate FreeAgentDesktop USB Device (465 GB, USB)
    Optical Drive: HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H55L (LG Make)
    Input:
Keyboard: Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard
    Mouse: Microsoft PS/2 Mouse
    Network:
Network Adapter: D-Link DFE-530TX PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter (rev.C)
Network Adapter: SiS 900-Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter

    Many thanks in advance

Post one specific example of what you're trying to install drivers for. Post exact model number....
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

Hi Steve, thanks for looking at this.

1 specific piece of harware that won't install is a Kingston Data Traveller I 8Gb, Model No. DTI/8gb It was shipped with no Manufacturer Drivers and, as I understand it should not need additional drivers for XP (as I understand) and it does work fine on at least 6 other XP machines (Home and Pro).

A little background info that may be of use is:

I have another usb pen drive Kingston Data Traveller II which worked well before the troubles, and continues to work well

    Thanks again
