Change file icons?
Question for those who are experimenting with Win 7: You could change the file icons in XP, but Micropoop in their infinite stupidity went even more proprietary on us and made it unavailable to change file icons (you can still change folder icons, but that's not good enough). Did they or did they not restore this capability in Windows 7? Inquiring minds want to know....

Thanks SRJ...I'll try that Types program later....but I still wonder if MS reinstated in Win 7 the easy file icon change. From what I understand in Vista, if you change the file icon through the Registry, it screws up the File Preview feature in Explorer (not that I use it anyway).

Just a note: that Types program works great with changing file icons, but it appears to eliminate the Preview feature....no big loss as far as I am concerned.

in Windows 7 Go to "Control Panel", "All Control Panel Items", "System Icons" and then "Customize Notification Icons" You can customize behavior and such there
Hope this helps,
