    SATA Hard drive on laptop

I cannot start windows because of corrupted files.(XP) on a Dell Laptop. If remove the HD and connect it to my PC would I would run into any problems doing this. The SATA HD on the laptop has the same connectors as my PC and it will plug in. I need to get data off the laptop HD and then I will reformat. I thought at first before I removed the laptop HD that it had an IDE connector so I ordered the adapter. I removed it today and seen it had the SATA Drive in it. Just wanted to ask and make sure others have done this. I am on a run of bad luck so I approach anything with caution. td

Train, the cables plug in just like a desktop pc hard drive when both are using SATA. I just disconnected my dvd burner, plugged the laptop HD in it and windows found the drive and I when to work saving 6 gigs of data ,pictures and songs. The computer is only 3 years old. I was thinking that probably I would need an adapter because I thought it had IDE connections. I never removed the drive, just ordered the small adapter. I did not need it after all but I now have one when I do need it. It is good to know that newer computers we can do this. Took 1 minute to remove and 30 seconds to connect and I was up and running. I get the error that windows cannot find the following file because it is corrupted or missing. c\windows\system32\config\system . I do not have the original windows cd to try and repair. It had windows media edition. The other xp disks might work to try and fix this but I can fix it much quicker by wiping and starting over. I will now just reformat it using the hidden partition and then copy and paste the junk I saved and it will be out the door.

    Thanks for the added info.
A good plan of action too.
