INFO - Win XP Auto Update Issues

    Hi,

I was working an issue regarding a "Dial-182" exe file with Broni (McAfee: Potentially Unwanted Program). McAfee was reporting that this "Dial-182" was a "potentially unwanted program". Broni was very helpful in first helping me to get rid of the unwanted program, and next, completing some much needed and long overdue computer cleanup I'd been needing to do. I'd recommend his full instructions just to do the cleanup if you haven't tended to your 'puter in awhile.

There had been another issue, an issue that had occurred several weeks before the "Dial-182" thing, with Windows Automatic Updates. I was unable to receive the latest Windows Updates. Windows Security Center was reporting that Automatic Updates was turned off; but a check of the System Properties/Automatic Updates control panel showed that it was set to Automatic.

Here are instructions regarding the resetting of Automatic Updates that he'd given to me; he asked me to post them in the Windows forum in case anyone else is having any trouble with Auto Updates.

(Note to Admin: there are insts for Win Vista AU here as well as XP. I posted here because my orig issue was XP. I didn't know if this should be copied to the Vista forum as well?)
