    LBA requirements

    Is there a way to check a computer ( possibly within the BIOS ) to determine how large a HD can you can upgrade your computer to?

    Post the make and model of the computer, but if it is a custom or home built one, then post the make and model of the motherboard.

    The bios is normally where the limit is and the OS and SP do have a bearing here.

    But there are work arounds available.

    I do know the OS only has service pak 1. Computer is five years old.

    Usually, during POST you can see the mobo's model no. If a Logo displays instead of POST screen, you have to enter the BIOS setup to disable the Quiet Boot option. The common keys for entering BIOS setup is Del, Esc, F1, F2, F10 etc.

    No. CMOS/BIOS menu does not state maximum capacity HDD.
    You can refer the mobo/system manufacturers' website for references to LBA support.

    A computer made around 2003 is unlikely to have any drive size limits (at least until we hit the 144 PB limit ). But if you can post some more hardware details we should be able to tell you for sure.
