gep--Make sure you want to save the folders and therefore the messages in .dbx form rather than as .eml files.

An easy way of backing up your Outlook Express folders is to change the default location of the Store Folder, which is hard to locate, to a different place, in other partition, disk or wherever you like, assigning it a location and name you can easily remember.
Once this is done, you can, from time to time, copy the entire folder to a backup location.
In order to do what I described above:
1. Create a new folder and name it, for instance, Outlook Store.
2. Start Outlook Express.
3. On the Tools menu, click Options.
4. On the Maintenance tab, click Store Folder, then click Change and, in the window that pops up, locate the folder you just created.
5. Click OK
Now you have all your message folders in the new location.
