need info on cydoor or cd_load.exe.

Zone Alarm noticed (CD_Load.exe) and Ad Aware 5.0 found 12 entries spread through my registry and Windows/system directory. I traced it through to www.cydoor.com but other than a home page screen nothing about what program I loaded to get this monster on my machine.

I've been rebuilding my machine from scratch so I've installed a lot of them at once. Does anyone out there know what programs have this little gem hidden away?

Thanks johnking, Sorry I always do this when I post a question, my mind works faster than my brain and I leave things out. I should have stated that I looked at their 6 group headings before and the listings contained within and the only program I have, but haven't installed yet, is Opera.

I ran Ad Aware 4.x 3 days ago and no record of CD_load but Zone Alarm caught the offender this morn. I ran Ad Aware 5.0 after the warning and found the 12 references. I see the Ad Aware threads posted today but since Zone Alarm caught the beast only today I don't think it has anything to do with the possible problems with Ad Aware.

Is it possible that the CD_Load.exe arrived by browsing and spread itself ???

I would think that Norton 2001 AV would have detected that. Hmmmmmmmmm.

While I was typing ol Mo as usual has great info posted ahead of me. I propose we create a Mosaic1 heading right before Window98. We probably wouldn't need the rest.

I still have to figure where the bugger came from and why if it's this pervasive Norton didn't catch it as a possible hueristic.

Griffinspc: I know for a fact that Cydoor is imbedded into IMesh (a program like Napster). Do you have or did you ever use IMesh?

Check this site out to see the list of programs that have Spyware in them. Look through the list and any programs that ring a bell and have Cy next to it indicates that it has Cydoor spyware:

    Known Spyware Programs

BTW, there is a really good thread about Cydoor somewhere here on VDr posted by, I think, Carson. I'll see if I can find it...give me a mo...

    Hope this helps mate

griffin, have you by any chance ever had Imesh on your system?

Cydoor is loaded into your registry at very many places. I would advise you to go into regedit/edit/find, do a search for these files also....

I doubt you got it from Surfing the net. You have to install something that has cydoor associated with it.

I had to do it all manually cause Adaware did not do much for it then. 4.xxx version. I had a total of 39 entries in my registry.

This could have come from many different programs.......

Here we go Griffinspc, the threads as I promised earlier:

How to remove "Cydoor" from msconfig/startup...no longer using

Beware AdAware...not always aware of claims

    spyware

These are the three posted by Carson. I thought I'd link them all as they have the same theme to them. These may prove to be very useful.

    Hope this helps mate

Goldust, I checked the link of known spyware and the only 3 I have had installed are Download Accelerator, RenameIT and notepad+.

As I said I'm rebuiling this machine from a complete reformat and haven't installed Accelerator yet or notepad+. I have reinstalled RenameIT. Curiously though, I had those 3 installed before with ZoneAlarm and it never detected cydoor trying to pass.

I don't have Imesh Dodge but the last thing I installed yesterday as I think about it, was the Nero upgrade. It's not listed as spyware on Goldust's link but then neither is Imesh. I wonder.

PS: just did a registry search and found 3 more references. One was a load command.

Hmmmm...I can't really think how else Cydoor could have got into your puter, other than it being 'bundled' with another program.

You will find that AdAware won't pick up all spyware references - especially if the spyware is a little sneaky and works around programs like AdAware...As you have found, you need to do a manual search in the Registry to truly get rid of the instances.

I'm afraid I can't help much more than this. The links I have saved in my Fav's to do with Spyware have already been mentioned here.

BTW, AdAware 5.1 is now out and replaces Version 5 which came out a few days ago. Try running that and see if it picks up anymore...BUT, I doubt it since 5.1 was introduced to correct another 'bug'.

I didn't check the other Spyware list you were given, but try this one it does show Imesh and lots more. You can download the latest spyware list. Alot of crap in there. Infoforce

If you download there updated spyware, after downloading, open and copy all of it then paste to Notepad. You can read it better....
