Exclamation NO Audio, no cut, copy & paste, and clicking abilities almost gone!! Help!!

I just finished up cleaning my computer over in the Center for Disease Control forum - THANKS BRONI, you totally ROCK!!

but I'm still having these issues that I posted before my computer was cleaned:

    1. No audio at all (in Device Manager under "other devices" there are the yellow circles with questions marks - Mutlimedia Audio Controller and 2 Unknown device)...but under Sound, video & game controllers - all is fine!!??? - originally the bug that I had made random voices and music come through my speaker when nothing was there. But now, all audio abilities are totally gone.

    2. Only single clicking on my mouse is working...I can not double click, click and drag, right click and choose any options other than View and New. If I want to "double-click" on an icon anywhere in my computer, I have to click once and then hit "enter" to open the files.

    3. I can't cut, copy or paste - either by mouse or manual controls

What can I do to fix this????

Also, since I was on a war path with these bugs, can I go and remove some other spyware scanners, such as SpyBot, Spyware Doctor, ComboFix, etc. I want to definitely keep MalwareBytes and the CCleaner...but can I get rid of the others??

    1. Download, and install Everest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html
Open it, click Computer, then Summary.
In upper menu, go Report>Quick Report-Summary
Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post.
Don't include anything under line Debug - PCI

    2. Did you try another mouse?

    3. You need to explain better "I can't".

SpyBot, Spyware Doctor, ComboFix may go.

    1. I'm on my way to download Everest.

    2. No, this mouse is brand spanking new, but it does move around the computer well and when I tested it in Mouse (under control panel), it said it was working fine. But I'll see if I can get my hands on another mouse just to make sure! :-)

    3. If I chose anything, file, zip file, document, and try to cut and paste it into a different folder, (or copy for that matter), it doesn't work...nothing happens. The only thing I can cut, copy or paste is words, like I copied the words from my other thread into this new thread. But as for anything else, my CUT, COPY and PASTE commands don't work...either by Ctrl+ X,C,V or by right clicking on the mouse.

Awesome, I'll delete them before I download everest! Thanks

It looks like you have BrookTree Bt878 Video Capture card, and the sound section got corrupt. Do you remember installing that card? Do you have any CD, that came with it?

No, but my husband's boss just gave us a better video card, and he installed everything....(that's the same thing as a video capture card right?!?! dur). When hubby goes to work tomorrow, I'll get him to ask if he still has the CD or what did he do to install it.

What about the other issues, any idea on them?

Please do. There are some drivers for the above card on the net, but because they come in large number, it's little bit confusing.

As for the mouse, try to find another one, so we can eliminate possibility of bad mouse.

As for copy/paste problem...it's not a short run.
    Let's start with this...
    Go Start>Run, type in:
    sfc /scannow
    Click OK.
    Have Windows CD handy.
If System File Checker (sfc) will find any errors, it'll ask you for the CD.
If sfc won't find any errors, it'll simply quit, without any message.

Ok, I'm having a bit of a problem... I was running the sfc / scannow and it asked for my windows CD, which I have in hand, but when I insert it, it tells me its the wrong CD and asks for the Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 cd...which I do not have...I only have the CD that came with the computer. So I figured I'd go to microsoft and download it....wrong, it tells me that i have to do it through my computer in automatic updates and tells me where to go to do that, problem is...under my control panel some icons are missing (looks like 3 are missing, just by the way the icons are situated)..."SYSTEM" being one of them! I'm searching now for another way to get in to do updates!!??!!

One good news is, sfc asked for Windows CD, which means, it found some corrupt file(s).
Now, you'll need to do some more work, creating new Windows CD with SP3 slipstreamed into it. That will CD, sfc is asking for.

    Ok, thanks!

I started the process, but I got an error message in the process, so I'm over at the Elder Geeks' forum and posted a thread to help with the error code. I'll get back here once I've got the CD and did the previous step (that requires the stinking CD in the first place). Thanks again for your help!

Ok....I heard back from one of the guys in the Elder Geeks forum about creating that SP3 cd and this is what he says:

Unfortunately it seems slipstreaming SP3 into XP Media Centre isn't supported by Microsoft...

I found conflicting info. on the Net about SP3 and XP Media Centre, one person said you end up with an XP Pro SP3 CD if you do it !

First, a 'repair' install, you boot from your XP CD and install over the existing XP, this should leave your Data and Programs intact, you will have to re-install all Updates/Service Packs but if you start with SP3 then there aren't many to get.

Second, uninstall SP3, it should be in Add or Remove Programs as 'Windows XP Service Pack 3' but it's presence there may depend on how it was installed.
Then try sfc/scannow again, this will only work if the files on your CD are at the same Service Pack level as the XP installed, hence the removal of SP3.

I should say I have no personal experience of XP Media Centre so the above may not apply, hopefully someone here at TEG or on that other forum will post and clear this up.

Maybe you could mention my 2 ideas on the other forum, see what response it gets ?

    What do you think??

Before we do anything, I still don't know, if you found your video card CD, and if you tried another mouse.
Also, were the same issues present before you installed SP3?

Ok, still working on the video card and mouse (husband had class today, but will go into work tomorrow and get a mouse and talk about the video card)

I didn't even know I had SP3 was on here, the computer automatically checks for updates and it must have gotten installed that way...but I didn't have any problems with my computer until I caught whatever bug we had, that's when it all started.

I started the process, but I got an error message in the process
What process did you start? Making slipstreamed CD, or sfc?
    What is exact error?
