What player are you using? Have you installed any codecs?

I use k-lite on my xp box, so you could try those on yours.

    K-Lite Codecs

..I started with Windowmediaplayer then I tried Powerdvd and then I downloaded Realplayer...but the sound problem is with dvd discs..with the internet media I have the problem of the default player.. with all those players I downloaded I don't know which is default ..and I can't figure it...
..I tried codecs years ago but they didn't work..aren't those for internet media?

The codecs are for Windows, not the internet. Try them again. They are newer now and probably will help. They did for me and other members here having problems playing dvds on the computer.

What issues are you having with the sound i.e. is it lagging behind the video, does it echo etc?
How have you set windows up to replay audio i.e. defaults or have you used the audio set up options to change the way its played back i.e. hall, chamber etc?
What speakers are you using i.e. one each side of the monitor [2.1] surround sound etc?
Try CCCP codecs and see if rendition is any clearer.
VLC player is quite good for DVD too.
