Question [XP] Need suggestion about cleaning my PC

    Hi.

I decided to clean up my hardware componets of my PC, theys dust and stuff.

So, is it safe to add oil to fans, as in between the parts where they speen?
    Is it safe?

    Thanks

    ZDNet: http://news.zdnet.co.uk/hardware/0,1...2135514,00.htm says, it's OK.
Make sure, you use compressed air, first. While cleaning fans with compressed air, I use chopstick to hold the blades, so they won't get damaged while blowing the air.

What I do... Remove the sides and top(if top is removeable). Take it out side or into a garage. Use canned air to blow the dust out.Be sure you blow it out and not into the corners tho.As broni said, use something to keep fan blades from spinning. I use a soda straw myself. Use 99%Isopropyl alcohol(no oil) and cotton swabs to clean fan blades/housing. For a longer maintenance cycle, I mount(tape) the thin, plastic pot scrubbers you can buy in most grocery type stores on the intake side of the case intake fans. Give them a short spray of wd-40 before installing. This will catch quite a bit of dust before it can get into the case and doesn't restrict the air movement.
If there is a center tag/hole cover on the fan. Peel it back and put just one small drop of a good electrical oil in. Hoppes Gun Oil is a very good choice imo.
    Have fun...

To add to what has already been said I sometimes have myself or my girlfreind hover over the system with a vacum cleaner to collect the dust as it blows out of the case. I would not recomend touching any components with the vacume. Static can sometimes acompany moving air.
