[RESOLVED] Compacting email messages
OE6 on my XP pc keeps inviting me to compact my email messages to save memory. Is there any downsize to doing so? Thanks.

OE will ask you to compact messages every 100th time you close OE.
This is a good thing, it will in fact compress .dbx files (your folders in Outlook)
You can change this by a registry hack but that's not wise.

wdc, The kink below expains it fairly well.
Why You Should Let Outlook Express Compact Messages When It Asks You

Whatever you do DO NOT interrupt the compacting process.

Tufenuf: Thanks, great. Since it is so essential not to interrupt the compacting process, wouldn't you think OE would alert you to that when it flashes the "do you want to compact" message?

In a perfect world, it would alert you....But you're now an informed consumer and don't have to worry about it
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.
