firefox will only take 50 percent of the cpu?

When I use different websites that need to load a lot of info firefox will only take 50 percent of my dual core amd cpu. I just installed the dual core optimizer and it's still doing the same thing. What is going on? The page takes longer to load and it bogs down the system at the same time since it won't take all of the cpu.

Firefox hits abot 75% then drops back to abut 50% for me also. And yes FF is slow loading.

XP 2500 Barton cpu.

AFAIK Firefox is mostly (completely?) single-threaded, so it can only use one core. If you had a quad-core processor, you'd only see 25% use.

If you look at the Performance tab in Task Manager, you should see one CPU core flat out and the other one close to idle.

No, I watched taskman and no both cores are being utilized about 50 percent each.

I had a core2duo machine and it seemed to work a lot better.

I still have the machine but I need to replace the motherboard in it because the hd controllers have problems.

This is kinda of a spare machine I have, I thought perhaps there is some fix for amd chips that would help it utilize the cores better.

Now that you bring it up, AMD does have some processor drivers and utilities.
