Macros not running from keyboard
Using XP and Word 2003
I created several macros and set them up to run from the keyboard. They all have alt+ keyboard names, e.g. alt+2, alt+3, alt+m, etc.
Nothing drastic happen on the weekend to the computer that I know of. However, today my macros are not running from the keyboard.
If I open the macro tool, using Word, highlight the macro and click run, the macro will run. But, if I Key alt+2, the macro does not run. (Last week, it worked perfectly.)
I tried using the alt key on the right side of the keyboard and it still did not work.
Using my KVM switch, I switched to a different computer, and the macro keyboard functions on the different computer worked well, i.e., the problem is not with the keyboard, but rather with the computer.
I rebooted and it still does not work. I disconnected and reconnected the keyboard usb connector and it still does not work. I connected the keyboard directly to the computer, rather than through the KVM, and it still does not work.
Do you have any idea what the solution is to my problem?

Not sure about the cause, but have you tried deleting one of the macros then redefine it?

Deleted one of the non-running keyboard macros and tried to create a new macro, first with the same key strokes, then with a different set of key strokes, and could not create a macro.
After naming the macro and then selecting Keyboard, when asked to press the new shortcut key, noting was entered in the box. Not only are the old keyboard macros not running, I am not allowed to create a new keyboard macro.

It looks like Word is having a problem on that PC. If you can create a macro with KB shortcut on another PC in the same document, that would confirm this.

I'm with jdc2000 on this one. If you can create a macro on the other PC, then you might want to try repairing word. Some instructions here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/821593

I get an error message when I try to repair, or reinstall using Add/Remove. Will look for the original CD and consider removing the existing microsoft office and reinstalling from the original CD.
Alternatively, should I consider upgrading to Microsoft Office 2007? I know and like Word 2003 and have heard that Word 2007 can be problemsome.

Okay. Hope you can remove it. Small word of warning on Word 2007 - bit of a learning curve for those of us who have been using Word 2003, XP, 2000, etc!

I removed MIcrosoft office 2003 using Add/Remove and reinstalled Office 2003, along with Word 2003. I downloaded the latest service pack for Office 2003.
When I opened the new Word 2003, I immediately noticed that my old macros, which I thought would have been removed when I removed office 2003, were still there. Evidently, the macros survived the removal of office 2003 (which does not make sense). And the macros still do not run from the keyboard.
The old problems with macros still exist.
Do you have any idea how I should proceed from here?

Also, I just noticed that all of my old autocorrects are still here.
Is it possible that when I removed Office 2003, Word 2003 was not removed?
I presumed that I would get a new and clean Word 2003, on removing Office 2003. It looks like Word 2003 is just like it was before removing and installing Office 2003.

The Office removal process does not remove any documents or templates. You would have to remove those manually. However, they should not be causing your problem either.

A solution of sorts:
It appears as though a virus or some other malware corrupted the computer and keyboard, such that the alt and windows keys are reversed. When I hit alt, I was getting the windows functions. E.g., I had a macro requiring alt+t. However, when I hit alt+t, I was taken to the tools icon. Similarly, alt+d, instead of inserting today's day, took me to the desktop. However, if I used windows+d, I got the date inserted, which was what I wanted, and if I hit windows+t, I got the time inserted, which was what I wanted.
Each macro now works, but I have to hit windows+(key) to get the macro to run from the keyboard.
Could not locate the virus or malware which probably caused the problem. Ran BitDefender, Spybot, Hijack this and others. Could not locate the bad guy, but I can live with the solution.
Thanks to those who contributed.

Thanks for posting the cause of the issue. You might see if any of the links found below are helpful.

It'd be worth having a good look through all the settings under Control Panel | Regional And Language Options too.
Safe computing is a habit, not a toolkit.
