Recommend any tyres for my Honda anyone?
I know there are a few motor enthusiasts here, so thought why not.....
My old man (said follow the van!) told me moons ago to get Avon tyres to replace my Michelins as they were 1/2 the price and just as good.
Well, having replaced the front pair 3 times now, I wonder if the Michelin's were the cheaper option, as I've still got them on my rear and the tread is still good. I do realise it could be my cornering that is wearing the front tyres down (I tend to drive fast round corners!).
I've been offered Kleber Dynaxer HP tyres (owned by Michelin apparantly) for near enough the same price as the Avons (£72 each inc VAT). He reckoned these tyres are on newly manufactured BMW 5 series (which I thought used run-flat tyres, but who am I to argue!).
Am I being ripped off with these 'michelin' cheapos, should I stick with my Avons, or is there something around the same price range you would recommend.
PS - the car is a Honda Accord Sport 1.8 Vtec (2002). Current profile of tyre is 205/50/R16/87/W.
Cheers all,
TEk

Something to concider!
The hogher the mileage guarrantee of the tire the harder the rubber in the tire thus cutting the friction factor to the ground.
TOYO tires are a bit better than even Michelins right now in that tire size.
Even with VAT, you are cheaper by about $50. per tire.
Maontaining the tire pressure is a big factor in tire wear.
Pressure drops 1 pound for every 10 degree F drop in temperature and you lose 1 pound a month because of permability of the tire. Some tires wear better at the car manufactors recommended, while other tire wear better by using the tire sidewall max recommendation. The last is where I usually get the best tire maileage. Diving into and out of corners like that also eats more gas.

Cheers Train. You mean to say I've found something that is cheaper here than in the US? Wonders never cease!

I take it you've had the tracking checked, Tek? That makes a huge difference to front tyre wear even if it's out by just a smidgeon.

That front end alignment is most imperatively has to be spot on, or you will be soon buying tires weekly. Or something will break in the front end leading to even more . . . . . . [you supply the words].

Good shout Nick/Train, will spend the extra £20 or so and get that done whilst I'm there. Damn speed humps!
I just checked my last invoice and can tell you the last time I replaced both front tyres was 29 November 2006. They only cost £60 each then! 16% increase in 18 months.
Cheers,

I'm pretty sure that I've seen ads that some tyre fitting places will give a free tracking check. Another thing that you can do (though I admit I never do it, I seem to be very easy on tyres), is to periodically rotate them so that the back ones go on the front and vice versa.

The 5,000 mile rotation does help out. 37,000 miles on mine now and fixing to rotate again, and they still have over 3/4 of the tread to the indicators. But the roads here a quite different from those I saw in East Anglia.

Well, I ended up going back to the Michelins at £107 a pop. Got the free tracking check and the front 2 were -3° and +3° respectively - I got it fixed!
Just had the baby MOT'd and she passed first time (sweet), albeit they've now told me the offside rear will need replacing soon.

Get it replaced. SAFER!
Particularly when the rains start back up and it starts slidding on you.

I like Michelins. Hopefully you'll get plenty out of those now that the geometry is correct
