Problems Uploading or E-mailing Large or Multiple Files

It seems that whenever I try to email large files or upload photos on Picasa my internet connection will freeze midway through. I am forced to reboot and pick up where it left off but it is a process that I must repeat until completed.

The Repair Network Connection in XP does not work which is why I must reboot.

This only affects me as other people using the wireless network have no problem. They are on Macs though that should not matter.

To connect to the Time Warner provided network I am using the Trendnet 424UB adapter. I am using the built in XP networking software and not what was provided with the usb adapter as I found it not to be as good what was in XP.

Do I need to reconfigure something in XP or is it the adapter?

BTW, while I know a cable from my desktop to the router would be best it is not practical and I need to be on wireless.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Are you sure it's actually freezing and not just unresponsive while it's hqndling the file transfer? How big is the file and how long do you wait?

As a test, try to hardwire to the router, or better, yet, straight to the modem, and see, if same thing happens.

I do not know if the internet connection is frozen or unresponsive. I am not even sure how I would be able to tell the difference. What I can tell you is that if I try to use the browser to go to a web page I can not get there. As to the size of the file, it can be multiple photos at a few hundred KB each or just one photo that is a couple of MB. The only way I can get my internet connection back is to restart the computer.

I am in the process of getting CAT 5/6 cable to connect my computer to the router and if needed the modem to see if the problem is with my wireless USB adapter or it is with the ISP. I hope to post back soon as to what happens when I do this.

    Thanks.

    Update

I am still waiting to get the cable to hook into my Ethernet card but in the mean time I decided to see what would happen if I attempted to upload photos while in Linux.

I downloaded picasa for Linux and then uploaded an album of about 20 photos. All went smoothly and fast with no freeze or unresponsiveness.

I also attempted to e-mail myself some photos through gmail via Thunderbird. This time it loaded about half the photos before I received a message of a problem with the smtp server. I did determine though that my internet connection remained active and I could still surf without having to restart like I would in Windows. This may have happened because of Thunderbird.

I will try a few more times to see if I can repeat all of this but it looks like to me that this is a windows issue with my wireless adapter. I will need to see if the problems duplicate when I connect with a cable from the computer to the internet while in Windows. If it does this will just be another push for me to give up Windows.
