Is there a way to PERMANENTLY stop QuickTime from loading on boot? Each and every time that I visit my online banking account, or any other site which utilizes QuickTime, it reconfigures itself to load on boot. Then, I must go back to MSConfig, and disable the service from starting. After doing that, it is gone from boot until I again visit a QuickTime site. Then, sure enough, it enables itself.
A lot to read and to try. I will go through the information and let all of you know what happens. It’s nice to know that I am not the only person that is aggravated with this issue.
Well, I’ve tried (almost) all of the suggested fixes from the furnished link. No-Go. I guess that I wasn’t terribly surprised with the outcome, because virtually all of the suggestions said that no matter what you do, QuickTime will always re-enable itself after using the program. That, in my opinion, kind of sucks! Admittedly, I did NOT block allowing changes to my registry, because that would be a total nuisance, but I did try the rest. It’s really sad because the more that I use MY computer, the more I learn that it’s really is NOT mine at all. Rather, it seems to be controlled by “user-friendly” programs which totally take control of it. Even after having specifically told some programs and utilities “No-I do not want you”, you WILL have them anyway.
I read your reply only AFTER I posted my most recent reply. I believe that in my particular case, your extremely good suggestion will not work. I happen to use a major online banking facility which specifically checks for the “QuickTime” codec. In fact, even after I do a clean-up of my registry, or of my “unused” files and “tmp” files, I must obtain a new “authorization” key to access my account. I guess that QuickTime has a nice little monopoly going on here.
QuickTime at startup is a nuissance.
There is absolutly no need for having it load at startup.
Sometime ago I've written a script to delete QuikTime at startup.
It will delete registry entrances, so it will not load at startup and rename QTTask.exe to QTTask.exe.old.
(QTTask is responsible for loading QuickTime at startup)
There are no codecs deleted, you should have no difficulty in loggin in to you banking site.
I must admit that I have absolutely no understanding of your script, but I can say that it worked FANTASTICALLY! No more QuickTime at boot, even after I visit a QuickTime site. And, I was able to log into my bank with no difficulties.
