Me either...I did hear sounds on a sister site last month from an ad. It was a Text to Speech ad...

Not wanting to drag this out, but it's only the one advert here on vdr (it links to http://www.microsoft.com/systemcenter/designedforbig/) and I only heard it for the first time for about a half hour before I originally posted.

The sound (or music) is I beleive about 5 to 10 secs and I think is from a space odyssey, the bit with the hefty drums!!!

Now I just logged on here and no music.. start to feel paranoid!! but notice a new ad has replaced the MSone above, the new ad is http://www.mobilecontentstrategies.com/ and does not contain any sound, happy days... but no, the MS ad has returned along with the music after I'd moved to reply.

I agree with what Supersparks said about having a global setting for the sound, it would be ideal.

Anyway, like I've said if it can't be fixed (other than the unmentionables) then off with the speakers and on with the fm radio, not the preferred fix, but one that can work for me.

And on the subject of unmentionables, someone better edit my post (April 13th, 2008 01:47 PM) to remove a certain product mentioned ... thank you all

Unfortunately I have no idea how that could be done, logistically. The adverts belong to different advertisers, are not hosted on our servers, and so I don't see any way to put a global anything that would affect any aspect of their display.

No Probs JP, I wouldn't have a clue if it could be done or not, suffice to say that if it could, it would be good.

An ad should not be playing sound without some sort of action on the viewer's part (your part). This might be a mouse over event, but if your mouse doesn't go over the ad, then then it should be as quiet as a mouse.

Joe - If ads are playing automatically, as in with no action, please report these to banners and cc' me on the report. My understanding (which could be wrong) is that we try to avoid ads that play sound automatically.

The problem is, Brad, I never see these ads because they appear to be targeted to the UK. Those of you who are experiencing this issue, if you can grab a screenshot or save the source code when these ads come up, it will help me to know which adds to report. Thanks

Dont know if this is of any use but, right clicking and selecting settings shows ds.serving-sys.com (host server? )

screenshots of the ad are attached

No interaction is required for the sound to start

Glad to see I'm not the only one suffering this, I was starting to get paranoid

    hope this is of use

Try adding the following three lines to your HOSTS file:
    Code:
    127.0.0.1 ds.serving-sys.com
    127.0.0.1 bs.serving-sys.com
    127.0.0.1 datacapture.serving-sys.com
