    Angry Spyware

    One or two sites I visit regularly, have today, been redirected to the Dell search page with the message

    Sorry, we couldn't find http://altfarm.mediaplex.com/ad/fm/5...-11000-0%3Fmpt.

    This has happened in the past but not as bad as today. The site I use a lot with normally no problem is http://www.advfn.com/

    I run my normal spyware program but nothing is found and the problem has persisted all day. Any ideas?

    Two things to try:
    - Install Firefox, and see, if same thing happens.
    If Firefox works OK...
    - In IE, go Tools>Internet Settings>Advanced tab, click on Reset button (be aware, all extras, like add-ons, will be gone).

    The reason you get an error when trying to access:is because that page doesn't exist.

    It could be because the webmaster(s) that run http://altfarm.mediaplex.com deleted the "5112-26399-11000-0%3Fmpt" file or, they may have moved it from the "/ad/fm/" directory to another location on their website.

    Another possibility is that the webmaster that typed in the "http://altfarm.mediaplex.com/ad/fm/5112-26399-11000-0%3Fmpt" URL simply got it wrong. (The "5112-26399-11000-0%3Fmpt" file, and/or the "/ad" directory and/or the "/fm" directories may have never existed on "http://altfarm.mediaplex.com").

    It appears that the culprit is one of the many adverts that appears on the home page of this financial site. This ad has downloaded ok this morning and the problem has disappeared for now. When not working, I can see where the ad should be, part of a message saying "Navigation cancelled". I have loaded Firefox and this allows me to stay on the site and see this part message, whereas IE7 takes me off the page almost immediately.

    While using Firefox, you'll want to install Adblock Plus add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865, which will save you a lot of headaches caused by ads.
