    Vista Firewall Outbound Protection Add-On

    VistaFirewallControl (Free)

Whenever an application tries to access the Internet, a screen pops up, with the application name, the publisher, and similar information, as well its path and file name. You can enable or disable inbound or outbound connections it tries to make, either permanently, or just this one time.

I`ve been using this all day and it seems to work well. Remembers what you tell it
    It blocks IE by default

If only that was around months ago when I got this PC. I actually quite like the Vista firewall once it's configured, but setting it up for outbound blocking and manually allowing all your apps through to begin with is a thorough pain.

I have read that elsewhere too. Some articles even say it is well nigh impossible to configure

I`ve had it running for a few days now and it seems to be fine. It acts as a firewall should with the alerts and remembers what you tell it which is a big plus.

Hi, thanks Elaine I have this program and like you find it far easier then the alternative. MS believe tweaking with the firewall should be made a technical experience to discourage those that dare. For what it's worth to access the firewalls advanced settings go to start search and type mmc.exe, from the file menu select add/remove snap in, scroll to "windows firewall with advanced security..." and add, now you can tweak the settings there .. good luck

    Glad you all like it

I had accessed the advanced settings via
Control panel (classic view)/Administrative tools/Windows firewall with advanced security.
