You can only have 4 logical partitons and rest of have to be extended . you can try partition magic http://www.powerquest.com/partitionmagic/ , get a triel version .

hi, i'm a bit confused by the above, do u mean per PC or per Drive? it don't make much sence to me please explain.

right then lets forget about 1st disk for now...on my new drive i hav created 1 primary dos partition 10gb then extended dos partition of remaining space...then it asks to make logical partitions inside extended so i make 1 of 10gb size and the other uses remaining space of about 25gb...the last 25gig is missing after reboot.

as far as i know this is the right way of doing it, and i have done it exactly the same b4 but on a PC with 1 drive tho and all was cool.

i need help, this is doing my head in cuz its the first time i have fitted a drive in a pc, thanx again

Hi, i really don't know what else to try now, i'm beging to get rather stressed with it, damn PC's...gggrrrrrrrrrr

can some1 just clarify wether this problem is far from normal or not, so i can just take it back to shop insted of wasting my time anymore its going on for 8 hours and more yesterday now i've been trying to fdisk...i've built systems with multiple partitions b4 and never had a problem.

    regards

You're using fdisk so you're creating 1 primary, 1 extended, then 2 logical within the extended, right? This is better than fdisk. Download ranish, http://www.users.intercom.com/~ranish/part/ unzip, and copy part.exe to a boot floppy, boot with it, type part at the A: prompt, hit f5 to look at disk 2, what does it report? Esc to quit.

It would be a great pleasure to know I have helped you, and that the fix worked and might help others. You might help me by posting which linux distro, version, and desktop manager you use. Have a most excellent day, dude/ette.

yeah that exactly the partitions i want, now there is a new prob...(gggrrrrrr)...when the drive is connected to any EIDE slave or master in both my PC's Boths PC's Refuse to Boot 1 just freeze just after it finds CD-ROMS and the other PC Still but allows me to enter BIOS...

Thats y i aint replyed for a while i've been swapping Drives around...

The Drive from this PC works fine in the PC with Problem so there is nothing wrong with PC.

I guess the drive is knackered, its a western digital factory repack, it was all in sealed bag when i got it, but i guess these things happens.

Do you think its knackered, b just my luck.

i'll have to check out above app when i get a replacement now by the looks of it..

    Cheers all!
