    Resolved [RESOLVED] Inbound traffic blocked?

Have a friend who has 2 PC's on a network one wireless running XP Home which connects OK

Other PC connected via LAN cable running XP Pro can send emails but not receive them, also will not display web pages.

Have 'ping'd' several times succesfully so connection is good.

All firewalls disabled still the same.

Additionally non connecting PC has printer attached to it that other PC could previously access on network but cannot do that either.

As other PC connects to internet and receives and sends email have ruled out router.

Suspect something is blocking inbound access to PC but cannot find what.

Anyone know of any spyware/virus/or malware that would cause this?

Any and all help will be much appreciated

Suggest that you double check that WindowsXP firewall was not accidentally turned on by someone.
    If applicable,
Double check the Antivirus in use if it provides any net security/access controls.
    And yes,
There are number of malware that can mangle the TCP/IP to the point of it being useless.
    Cheers.

    Thanks for the info.

Turned out it was a faulty Lan/ethernet port on the Mobo - would allow some info in but not all.

Apparently having done ping tests etc someone ran a Trace from a C prompt.

If anyone can explain how to use that would be helpful for the future.

    Tracert
    http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d....mspx?mfr=true

    Go to a cmd prompt

    type in

    tracert yahoo.com
    Hit enter

and you should get a reading like this.

    Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

    C:\Documents and Settings\username>tracert yahoo.com

    Tracing route to yahoo.com [216.109.112.135]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 64 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.1.1 <-this is my router and if it does not show up then there is a problem either in the nic, cable or router. But if other computers can use the router and changing cables does not help, that leaves a bad nic.
