Outlook Password
I just upgraded my computer. For e-mail I have been using microsoft outlook 2003...Now after upgrading I cannot access outlook.. I keep getting a pop up wanting me to enter a password........ If I use Outlook Express 6 I have no problems. I'm perplexed.....................

Password is not saved in Outlook Express/Outlook for Windows XP

Every time you open Outlook Express or Outlook you are asked to reenter your password even though the Save Password box is checked. Generally this is caused by a problem in the Registry with the Protected Storage System Provider key. Follow the steps below to fix this problem: - Back Up The Registry
Just to be safe you should back up this registry key before making modifications.
- Click Start, Run, and type regedit in the box, and then click OK
- In the left panel, click the pluses next to
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER
- Software
- Microsoft
- Right click on Protected Storage System Provider and select Export
- In the File name box, type a unique name for the key
- In the Save In box, click a location for the file to be saved (I would recommend the Desktop)
- Click Save
- Change the Permissions
- Still in the Registry, Right click on Protected Storage System Provider and select Permissions
- Click the user name for the user that is currently logged on and ensure that Read and Full Control permissions are both set to Allow
- Click on the Advanced button, and select the Permissions tab
- Highlight the currently logged on user, and make sure that Full Control is listed in the Permissions column, and that This Key and Subkeys is listed in the Apply To column
- Place a check mark in the box for "Replace Permission Entries on all Child Objects with Entries Shown Here that Apply to Child Objects"
- Click Apply
- A box will appear asking if you are sure you want to do this, click Yes
- Click Ok and then Click Ok again to return to the Registry Editor
- Delete the Key
- Reenter Password in Outlook Express or Outlook
- Open Outlook Express or Outlook
- When you are prompted to Enter password, go ahead and retype it and make sure the Save Password box is checked
This should complete the steps for fixing the problem of the password not being saved in Outlook Express or Outlook.

In backing up registry ............ "In the File name box, type a unique name for the key"............... What is meant by a unique key?

I just came up with another small issue......... If I try to change the font in create message I get a window with a 501 error has occured access denied " never had this before.......

"Unique" as in "the only one". In other words, give it a "unique name" ... being unlike any other filename [with a .reg extension] on your computer. For example, you could use a filename such as "1qa2ws.reg" or you might want to give it a name that is a bit more descriptive, maybe something like "HKCU Software Microsoft Protected_Storage_System_Provider backup.reg".

I removed the sub-key folder, and the password message ceased. But when send-recieve is selected the progress stops at 90%. Details says ISP rejected the request..... And suggests I check mail settings....... But Outlook Express still works fine......... I even uninstalled & reinstalled with no luck....... I can't believe this all started by just a simple upgrade...

Have you tried rebooting, (and then try Send/Receive again)?
If that doesn't help, what is the exact error message Outlook 2003 is giving you?
In Outlook 2003, click Tools | E-mail Accounts... | View or change existing e-mail accounts | Next >. Select your e-mail account in the window on the left and then click Change.... Make sure all the info on this "E-mail Accounts" screen is perfect and then click the Text Account Settings ... button. If all goes well, you'll see nothing but green check-marks under the "Tasks" tab. If something failed, click the "Errors" tab to see what the errors were.

At present I removed Microsoft Office 2003.......... I might try to install again......... I'll get back soon with the outcome......... Thanks for all the help so far............. :-)

Okay.................. ! I reinstalled.. Did the suggestions in the last post,,,,,, and the problem is gone!!!!! Man,, I'm happy !!!!!!! Thanks a whole bunch!!
