Post COMPLETELY Removing Norton Anti-Virus 2006 Software ????

I lent my notebook to a friend. Notebook is on WinXP (Home). While my friend had my notebook, he tried to installed Norton Anti-Virus 2006 (unsuccessfully, I suspect). [I guess the one successfully installed and running in there had expired, or he did something strange, I do not know exactly what happened].

Now, I tried to uninstall and remove what had been the remains of Norton Anti-Virus 2006, but encountered a problem.

Let me tell you what I did to uninstall and to remove NAV 2006:
    - Used (Add or) Remove Programs (from Control Panel) to remove NAV 2006 which was in a Norton folder. That was successful.
    - Went into C:\Program Files and deleted everything inside a folder of Norton Live Update. That was successful.
    - Looked through everything inside C:\Program Files, no folder with the name of Norton or Symantec was left.
    - Restarted Windows. Successful. No more Norton Icon or trace of anything from Symantec was running.
    - Used (Add or) Remove Programs (from Control Panel), and found an item called "LiveReg (Symantec Corporation) there. Tried to remove it, but encountered an error : "Symantec LiveReg cannot be removed at this time because the following applications required this component: Norton Personal Firewall". The only option for this error is to click OK, and no Help was there.
    - Used Windows Task Manager to see what Applications are active. Nothing said about or relating to Norton Personal Firewall appeared.

    Please help:
    A. How do I know Norton Personal Firewall is running or not running. How I can stop it, if it is running ?
    B. How can I remove Norton Personal Firewall, since I do not see it anywhere in my list of Program Files, or in Add/Remove Programs ?
    C. How can I totally clean my laptop of what is now left of Norton and Symantec ?

Appreciate very much your assistance. You guys (and ladies) had been a good and very prompt help to me in the past on everything compu-technical !!!!

Now, I want to share with you a very valuable "Lesson" learned in life, it used to be "Never lend your pen, your vinyl records (now include : CDs & DVDs), your car, your wife (or g/f) to anyone, even to your very best friend". Now, I need to add one more thing to this list: your computer. And waiting to be added is "your HDTV and all associated components".]

You can add "Money" to the above list. But do not expect to have it repaid. Consider it as a donation to charity, if you really and sincerely want to give a helping hand to your best friend. E'nuff said.

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...sf&view=pfdocs

Then use regedit to find and remove both Norton and symantec from the regs.
Careful here as you can wind up doing a clean install and losing everything on you drive.
