[XP] Laptop hard drive woes
Ok, so i think it is dead, here's the story:
I removed the hard drive from this Acer laptop, picked up a 2.5" to 3.5" converteroony, put it to a desktop, and it wasn't recognised, so i fiddled around and no luck, so i put it back in the laptop and i just get a black screen at boot, and when i boot with the XP CD i get "Setup could not find a hard drive installed on this machine" Any ideas?

I think it's dead too All you can do in cases like that where it isn't even seen at all, which indicates electronics failure, is to see if you can find a circuit board from an identical drive and swap them over. It's the one repair that can be done outside a clean room.

Did you check to see if the small jumper [if there is one] is installed corectly?

The lappy was fine beforehand, i put it on the adapter and played around, and it must of died in that process somewhere along that line, now i've put it back in the laptop to bring it here and it isn't being picked up by the XP CD or the Hitachi diagnostic.
There was no jumper. Any ideas how i'd go about replacing it? The way it goes in looks sort of proprietary, and the flap that covers it screws through the hard drive mount, so i don't think it'd be as simple as nip the the local shop, get overcharged for a drive and chuck it in.

Was the drive working when you removed it from the lappy?
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

I think it might come off, but it will void the warranty, so i'm gonna have to wait and see what he wants to do, thanks for the help so far.
