[RESOLVED] Java Runtime problem
I have Firefox 2.0 installed on Windows 98 SE.
I am trying to upgrade my Java Runtime to Edition 5.0 Update 9. (I have now Update 3)
I have successfully downloaded the file jre-1_5_0_09-windows-i586-p-s.exe, but when I double click on it, it requests internet connection, reads some 2500 bytes, and nothing more happens, no error messages, no anything.
Then I downloaded the file again, now with the Sun Download manager, which is supposed to test for errors. Exactly the same thing occurred again.
Any ideas ?

Get the full installer instead of the Internet stub. Go to here, click on the Download button for "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9", then grab the Windows Offline Installation (jre-1_5_0_09-windows-i586-p.exe).
Also note that you should uninstall 5.0 Update 3 at some point (either before or after you install Update 9), or it'll leave both versions installed.

Thanks for your input Tuttle,
I am getting sort of confused here.
The file I have downloaded (jre-1_5_0_09-windows-i586-p-s.exe) is the full offline installer, it has 15.74 MB, and I have downloaded it from
http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_xpi.jsp, as directed by the Mozilla people.
The difference that I notice is the (-s) before de .exe in the name of the file I have downloaded. It might indicate that is the Spanish version.

Something is wrong with your download then; it shouldn't need an Internet connection to install.
The one I linked to is multi-language; give it a shot.

In case somebody else is having this problem:
There seems to be a flaw in the file jre-1_5_0_09-windows-i586-p.exe,
corresponding to Java Runtime Edition 5.0 Update 9, since I have downloaded it several times, and from different sources, and it just does not work.
Instead I was able to download the file jre-1_5_0_07-windows-i586-p.exe, from the address:
http://jdl.sun.com/webapps/download/...BundleId=10549,
provided to me from the people of Sun.
With this file I successfully installed Edition 5.0 Update 5.
