    wierd boot noises and symbols

I have an Omnibook XE running win98SE.
For some reason when I boot up I get wierd noises and scrolling pages of hyroglphic (sp!) type characters. Any ideas what is causing this? I have checked for virii, etc.

I hate to be the one to tell you this. You need to fdisk and format yout HD. As far as the noise goes it sounds like maybe your HD is taking a dump on you. If so there are many sites on the internet that you can get a decent HD. Have a good day.........Harley

Before you go to the extreme of formating, let's try a couple of things.

Try booting in safe mode. Hold down the CTRL key just after you hear the initial system startup beep. Choose safe mode from the Startup Menu. Repeatedly tapping the F8 key will also bring up the Startup Menu.

If it boots into safe mode OK, we can start trying to narrow down where the problem lies.
