    [Home]Installed PVR card, XP crashed...

I installed a Hauppauge winTV PVR 350 card in my system yesterday. It seeemed to work alright. Today I had it running and left it in the "surf channels" mode for a few minutes when it froze. So I tried to reboot my system. The system would get to the windows splash screen and then crash and try to restart. It seemed stuck in this endless cycle. I finally ended up using System Restore to restore to a point prior to installing the PVR card. I'm afraid to reinstall the drivers and software for fear that I will end up with the same problems. I've checked the Hauppauge support page and I'm using the latest drivers. Any suggestions?

Well if it does happen again at least you know that you can use Sys Restore to recover. Really all you can do is try again.

Whne you go to reinstall make sure all programs and AV programs are turned off., nothing else running and see how that works.

OK, so the problem persists. I could only restart my system into Safe Mode. From there I used system restore to a point prior to the PVR installation. I reinstalled the PVR drivers and software and it worked OK for a day. Then the system locked up again. Every time I tried to reboot, the system would get to the Windows splash, linger for a while then power off, then try to restart again. An endless cycle. I am wondering if it is a power supply issue. I think it is a 400w or 450 in my tower. It's running the processor, 2 harddrives, 2 opticals, x600 vid card and now this tuner/pvr card. Is that too much?

No, as long as it isn't a really cheap and nasty PSU, then that should be plenty for what you are running. In any case power supply problems give different symptoms to what you are getting.

Unfortunately it looks as if those drivers are incompatible with the rest of your system I'd return the card and try a different one. I like Terratec cards, if they sell them in Canada.
