norton protection centre
good evening/bonjour/konichiwa etc..
my antivirus 2005 subscription has just run out so i installed 2006. all is well apart from that little annoying icon on the taskbar 'norton protection centre' which pops up telling me to allow windows updates and the like. i have managed to stop the alerts but the blighter remains on my system tray. i can move this to my taskbar but i cannot remove it. i have searched on google and i see many other people complaining about this but no solution. does anybody know how to get rid of the 'feature' or disable it fully?
thanks

Re:Getting rid of Protection center
Hello themanwhowas, Found Two 1 from Nortons website and the other from another forum, try the Norton first. Re: Disable The Norton Protection Center
Solution 1 ---- How to minimize the Norton Protection Center status screen and turn off alerting
Situation:
You want to stop the Norton Protection Center status screen from displaying at the bottom of your desktop and from displaying alerts.
Solution:
Follow these steps to minimize the Norton Protection Center status screen. This procedure will move the Norton status bar from the Windows taskbar to the system tray. It will also stop alerts from appearing.
To minimize the Norton Protection Center status screen
Start your Norton program.
Click Options > Norton Protection Center.
Uncheck Show protection status on Windows taskbar.
Uncheck Always show status window after login.
Uncheck Show messages from Windows Security Center.
Under Alert Options, uncheck Show Antivirus alerts, Show Firewall alerts, and Show Windows Updates alerts.
Click OK.
Solution 2 --- Go to Run > Services.msc and shut down the process there...
I have got 2006, will install it on the 10th Sept.
Let us know which worked.

thanks. the 1st solution i had already tried as nortons website was my first port of call. the problem is that the icon remains and its just the popups that are disabled.
the 2nd idea did work completely. the icon is now gone and i have disabled it from start up.
thanks
