    FireFox: keep only certain cookies

Okay, until last week when my network admin screwed up my windows profile everything was fine.

My old Firefox profile would let me save certain cookies (Google for example, so I wouldn't have to change preferences each time). I typically have Firefox set to delete all cookies when I close Firefox. I do try to keep a few exceptions like Google, Yahoo, and a few others.

Each time I open Firefox, I am forced to reset my preferences for Google, which means the cookie isn't being saved. I tried an extension called CookieSafe, but it hasn't changed anything.

    Any suggestions?

I managed to figure it out. Turns out that Firefox has some settings that override its other settings.

I went into Firefox's Tools menu -> Options -> Privacy button -> Cookies tab. I had checked the "allow sites to set Cookies", set exceptions (Exceptions button), and told Firefox to "Keep Cookies until I close Firefox". Also on that same tab is a button for Settings (The Clear Private Data tool). On this I had checked the Cookies option. Apparently this overrides any Exceptions that were set.

Once I unchecked Cookies on the Clear Private Data tool, I now keep any cookies set in Exceptions.

I have mine set to 'prompt' on every cookie request, and it saves those I want, even upon closing FFox.
Perhaps you need to disable deleting cookies on closing FFox?
edit: Glad you got it settled.
