    Resolved [RESOLVED] thunderbird 1.5

i am using thunderbird 1.0.15 for my personal emails. i also have a few emails for my website which i would like to keep seperate from my personal emails. i have tried to install thunderbird 1.5 in a seperate folder but alas, the system files are installed in the same place so whatever icon i click, whether it be 1.5 or 1.0.15 i have the same email accounts in each. i am not a fan of outlook and would prefer to stick to thunderbird as my email client. does anybody know of a way to install a 2nd version totally seperate from the 1st? im sure i could create a new partition for it and that may work but other than that...

I'm not sure that you can use 2 profiles in the same XP user account. At least not without it being a complete pain in the neck...

I assume that using one ThunderBird installation but with 2 email accounts in it is not something you wish to do? Here at home, I run only ThunderBird. I have 2 email accounts on this PC and 3 on the other one, but all under one user and one installation on each PC. The only thing I don't have is complete privacy between the individual email accounts.

Of course, if you set up another XP user account, setting up another ThunderBird profile is very easy.

One last semi-unrelated opinion. Why would you run such an old version of ThunderBird? Several of the recent updates were due to security issues. IMO, running an older version could be putting your PCs security at risk...

thunderbird 1.0.15 was the one that i had already installed. i downloaded the installer so i could try to add the 2nd thunderbird app which was 1.5. i have updated fully to 1.5 now but continued to use the diffrentiation of 1.0.15 and 1.5 to help with the structure and clarity of my question. creating a 2nd profile worked without being a pain in the neck at all. it was all described in the link. the fact is that i have 7 email accounts for my website and 3 personal ones which i was wanting to keep seperate. and now i have. thanks guys. you have been very helpful

I guess my thinking was that it always defaults to only one profile. But after re-reading the link SpywareDr listed, it seems that until you tell it to default to one profile, it allows you to choose. Is this right?
