    Outlook Express pop3 problem

I have Windows XP Home edition SP2. I am using OE 6. I am using AVG free edition. Zone Alarm Free edition. I also have been testing lately Thunderbird (I always made sure to use only one email client at a time). Everything worked fine but one day everything, my website, webmail and email client stopped working. The next day everything was working except my POP3 incoming mail on my Outlook Express or any email client. Webmail works fine. The exact error message is:

The server responded with an error. Account: 'mail.mydomain.com', Server: 'mail.mydomain.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the mail server!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90

I posted this problem in the AVG forums and I was told it is an email problem. Not AVG. I dont understand that because AVG is being mentioned in the error.

Just a shot in the dark.

I don't use AVG, so don't know, but does the AVG program have an email checking feature, if it does, disable it and see if that helps....also check and see if OE is your default email program, as it may have been changed when you used thunderbird.....hth.

I actually removed AVG entirely and still the same error came up. AVG is back on there now. I dont know if this has anything to do with it but the last few days before this problem started I was using OE and Thunderbird switching back and forth because I was thinking of dumping OE. I also had save on server with both email clients.

    Ok,major correction needed.
After removing AVG I get a completely different error:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.mydomain.com', Server: 'mail.mydomain.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

A few things come to mind.
How do you connect to the net...dialup, dsl, cable.....whichever, have you contacted your ISP with this error?...and what do they say?
Also, did you check to see that OE is your default mail program?
If these two items don't help solve this, then someone more knowledgeable will have to come along to help solve this issue.

The link below has Microsoft's analysis of the latest error:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;q191687

The error is a 'port blocked' error. However, if 'mail.mydomain.com' is exactly what is in the error message (you have not replaced your actual mail server name with this), then that may be the problem. After removing AVG, you need to change the mail server names back to what they should be for your ISP.

rsmyth, The instructions at the links below may be of some help.

    http://www.tiscali.co.uk/help/email/...x800ccc0e.html

    http://www.tiscali.co.uk/help/email/oe_settings.html

It very well could be the Outlook Express settings.

This KB answer implies that my SMTP and POP ports are being blocked. If that were the case why am I able to view my webmail? Can I view webmail but be blocked by the admin from downloding messages with an email client?

rsmyth--Did you try any of the suggestions?
When you look at webmail you are not using ports 25 (STMP) or 110 (POP3).
You are using port 80 (HTTP).

That is what I thought. It seems that my domain admin is blocking it. The KB article is talking about someone who has access to those settings which I dont. I have contacted him and I hope this is solved soon.

Thank you everyone for helping me out.
