    msn messenger

There are so many different versions of msn messenger now, I don't know if I'm coming or going. Last week i was trying to help a friend load a photo on my computer and I said, "That's no good, that's an old version, why have I suddenly got that?" I uninstalled the old version and went to msn.com to download the latest. Now I've got something which calls itself Windows Live Messenger and it says "your computer does not support shared files."
Well it did it just fine before!
    Any help much appreciated.

Windows msgr and MSN msgr are not quite the same. Windows msgr comes with XP, and it's basically an old version of MSN msgr. However you can have the 2 installed side by side. I do. So just let windows msgr be, and DL the newest MSN one.

Windows Live Messenger is the next generation of MSN Messenger. Windows Messenger isn't an old version of MSN Messenger but they are two different programs. Only Windows Messenger can connect to the Communications Service and Microsoft Exchange Instant Messaging.

You can run one side by side however you cannot log in with both using the same Net Passport. If you are signed in to one Messenger program with your .NET Passport, and then you use the same account to sign in to the other program, you are automatically signed off the first Messenger program.
