[RESOLVED] Photo Problem

Hello all, first time i have asked for any help here.

Got a 5 Mp camera, Vivitar 3930.

Problem, i took some photos and they have come out a little fuzzy {See the Attached Photo}

I have left the Flash on, as someone told me that having the flash on takes a better picture in Daylight, as well as night?

Can you tell me is the flash at fault? Or is there another problem?

Photos are taken in the highest and best resolution etc.

The photo seems alittle better since i edited it, by crop and resizing only.

Welcome to VDr! I my experience, a flash in daylight will brighten shadows- particularly helpfull with faces. The flash can wash-out the color in a pic, but can be filtered to reduce intensity. Also, backing up from the subject & zooming with the optical zoom only, will reduce wash-out and glare & still brighten hard shadows produced by bright sunlight. JL

There is no exif information in the file so we can't tell what the camera settings where.

We would really need to check the information such as shutter speed and what zoom you where using to have an idea , as a slow shutter with a longer zoom equals shake and thus blur.

One review of the vivitar mentions the pics can be a little "soft" , so some sharpening in your image editor (psp, Photoshop) etc might be welcome.

Hello JL, General Winters, i printed one of the Photos off, and it printed perfectly.
Don't understand when i open them in MGI Photosuite there a bit fuzzy, yet they print ok?

Also, is it best with or without the Flash on for all Pictures??

I know that inside, in the dark especially, Flash should be on.

GEP, this setting "Shutter speed 1/ 60" is really slow and should only be used in low light as in night. Can you change that to about 1/125 or 1/250? Because that would be your blur problem. It's hard to hold a camera steady enough at that shutter speed and not get fuzzy photos. A tripod is used when shutter speeds go below 100.

Hello PhotoLady, General Winters, JL, Cannot locate Shutter Speed except the manual says to place the wheel on "P" Turn camera on, Half hold down the button pointing at subject, then take the Picture. Seems ok, do that on all functions inc Video mode, but does not say Auto, though tried it and still takes a Picture.

I have taken the flash off, and the Pictures O.K. not fuzzy, so will leave like that till inside or its a little dark.

Even with the flash On, it may look fuzzy on the computer, but, not after Printing.

If he's using the flash ,wouldn't the camera automatically set the shutter speed 1/60 similar to what a 35mm SLR does when you choose flash and a non-manual setting?or is there no need to sync the flash and shutter speed with a Digital (no physical shutter).

I am not sure that would happen or not General. My shutter's flash speed is 1/100 on my SLR. I would think more modern digitals would have a higher shutter speed for flashes also.

Using the flash does fill in shadows on close by subjects which helps a lot if say you are facing the sun and the subject is in shadow or you are at a party in a poorly lit room [be it natural or artificial lighting].Not using the flash would either render the subject dark with a correctly lit background or if you use the subject as the exposure reading instead of the background [spot reading] a well lit subject but an overlit or "burned out" background.One disadvantage is that if its a busy fast moving background i.e. racing cars/busy street you will see movement or blur in the unflashed area of the image i.e. the background due to the longer exposure required for flash but this can be used to good effect if done correctly.

Hello All, thanks for your help, will turn flash off and only use it when i need to.
Photos are O.K. without the flash or with it when printed.

Cannot find out how to change shutter speed, as not in Manual.
