    Resolved [RESOLVED] Help installing TCP/IP

I just finished installing XP w/SP 2 on my new computer and was unable to network with my other computers. When I ran IPCONFIG, it just returns 'Windows IP Configuration'. I would assume that installing XP w/SP 2 should have installed TCP/IP by default, but it seems this is not the case, because I don't have an IP address. I've tried installing TCP/IP manually, but it says that it is "Unable to find any drivers for this device". It gives me the have disk option which I can point to the installation CD, but I have no idea what file it is. Can anybody help me?

    Hello mdbvcxz358,

The message is telling you that your network adapter isn't properly installed. It might be you don't have drivers properly installed for it. TCP/IP get's installed by default for each network connection in Windows XP so that isn't your problem.

I have an integrated adapter and it is listed as a 1394 net adapter and "working properly". This should work right? When I plug in the RJ-45, it blinks green. What else do I have to do to actually get it to work?

The 1394 adapter is your firewire port, not the network card.

You'll need to install the network drivers your motherboard manufacturer offers. If you can't find them on the CD, they should be available as a separate download from the motherboard manufacturer's website.
Safe computing is a habit, not a toolkit.

Thanks for the help guys, installing drivers did the magic. I guess I just assumed that network adapter drivers would be installed by default.
