IE6 open links with other application
This may be the wrong forum, but here goes.
on a web page, I can see links to .JPG files. When I click the link, I want MS Photo Editor to open the JPG. Instead it opens inside IE.
I have the JPG file type associated to MS P E. Is there another check box in IE that I should be looking for ?
Thanks for any pointers,
N'Bloke.

NorthernBloke--Seems to me you still have .jpg files associated with IE. How do you know you have them associated with MS PE?
Or maybe you no longer have MS PE installed? I think it is removed when you install Office 2003

You have not told us what version of Windows or Office you are using.
P.S. I did not get into the details of how to associate files until you tell us you need them and tell us more about your system.

IE browses differently than Windows Explorer. If you open a file in IE (or most other browsers) it will try to open it in the browser first. This is a feature. If the browser can't open it, it will prompt you if you'd like to open the file or just download it. You also may have options for downloading when you right-click.

Bu&&er
I was hoping that wasn't the case.
I'll carry on saving the jpg and opening manually.
Cheers.

If you were to able to change it, wonder what would happen when viewing web pages that have .jpg images embedded in them? Would "MS Photo Editor" be trying to open all the images on that page in multiple "MS Photo Editor" windows or open each one, one at a time as the page was loading?

You just have to assign the .jpg extension to a program. For example if you pick a .jpg on your HD, R-click and select open with..., then select choose program. Navigate to the program you wish to use for jpgs, and be sure to check "always use this program to open this type of file". That should do it.

JPnyc--In Post #2 I requested NorthernBloke tell us the version of Windows being used.
We still do not know. If earlier than Win2000, you have to hold down Shift before the R-click in your association procedure. And you have to click OK as the last step in the procedure for any Windows version.
