annoying little "helptext" boxes
Hi folks, When I'm perusing my collection of tunes in Windows media player and also in Limewire, these little yellow boxes appear that tell me the artist and lots of other really "useful" information. i don't find it very helpful at all, in fact it really gets up my nose because all it does is obscure what i'm trying to look at!
Someone please tell me how to get rid of them.
Ta very much.

The only way I've ever found to get rid of those is on a system wide basis. That means that you won't have them for any program or the operating system either... so you'll lose the benefit of them when they are useful.
I'll have a look around for that tweak if you want to try it. It can be reversed if you don't like it.

Always backup registry keys before deleting or editing them.

very surprised it should be so complicated.
No joy with the killTT programme. Got an install window, checked the box that says "run now" and then..... nothing.
The other options you've given me don't lead me very far either. I found HKEY_USERS in regedit (all by myself! ) but I don't have a "control panel" file in default, so now I'm stumped.
in default, i've got "predetermined" and "dispfilename" and that's all.

Have a look at this attached pic and see if you were looking in the right spot in regedit..

I was looking in the wrong place. However, changing the settings doesn't seem to have made any difference. like you said, limited success. I guess it's just one of those irritating little things you have to live with, like the yappy dog in the flat downstairs!
I found this: http://www.theeldergeek.com/tool_tip_displays.htm
but he loses me after "advanced." I click on advanced and I get all the stuff on the right hand side and then what?
Many thanks for your help.

Following the similar threads link at the bottom, (which i should have looked at before!) I went to "showinfotip" on the right and changed the value to 0.
Here we go, I thought, now we've sorted it. But NO! I restarted and I've still got them. Who designed this? Are you listening? Not helpful. Annoying!

Well, that's all I can think of. When I have to deal with annoyances like that I try to move the cursor away from the lines of data while I scroll with my wheel. That way the info boxes don't show up.

Wait until you get a real long title name, then that tooltips comes in handy.
I use finks method and it works great!
