changing the default OS?

hi,
as my sig shows i have both XP prof and Vista installed on different partitions on my HD's. so when the computer boots i have an option of both OS's which is good. only problem is if i don't do any thing Vista will be loaded as it is the default OS. so if there a way i can change XP to the default?

1. Right-Click on My Computer and select properties
(In Vista you can select View System Information from the Computer window.)

2. From the System Properties window select the Advanced tab

3. Push the Settings button under Startup and Recovery

4. Select the default OS from the Default operating system dropdown box.

5. Click OK twice.

that may or may not work. It didnt for me. I had to use bcedit in order to change my boot options. Seems that vista wants to take over any system. Tell me I'm wrong all you pro win users. I found that the easiest way is to use bcedit from the fake dos command and just bump the OS that you want to run up. Say you boot to xp? find bcedit which should yet be on the drive that vista has taken over and run it with the command of bcedit /{current} or {default} or find the identifier for it to make it the primary OS. Either that or run that scrappy debugger they use. After the last stint I have had with win? I have legitamately switched. Good luck steve, good luck programmers and most of all good luck Billy. Its a new free world and anyone that is interested? Go to linux. Just a suggestion. Lets put these M$ money hungry ***** down the drain. I'm sick of asking questions that M$ can't find the time to answer for themselves. They designed it yet have no answers and have no clue of how to fix it.

well i get Windows for free at the moment anyway so Linux isn't as attractive as it is to most.
and unfortunately as 'bchzd1' predicted that doesn’t work for some reason. i only have the option of XP. and while i know the basics about OS's I’m not clever enough to figure out what 'bchzd1' suggested. seems rather complicated. so unless there is an easy way i might just be stuck with it.

Try this then

Start/Run and type in
msconfig
OK

BOOT.INI Tab
Choose the one you want, and click "Set as default".

I think you may be stuck with things as they are. Vista seems to have it's own separate bootloader, at least it certainly did in one of the early betas. I never did quite figure out how it all works in conjunction with the XP bootloader. I expect to be loading the latest Vista on my new build in the very near future, and if I can find out more I'll be sure and let everyone know.
